The AmVets has a new FREE game on Saturday nights – MUSIC bingo! This easy game is hosted by DJ Bingo. No musical knowledge necessary: The DJ plays a 40-second music clip. At 30 seconds, the name and artist of the song is posted on the TV. At 40 seconds the DJ announces the song title. Look on your card. If you have the song, mark it off. Get the required pattern, win a gift card to the Post. $10 for the first three rounds, $20 for the fourth round.
Food is served from 5-7 p.m. The Auxiliary is cooking on many of the Saturdays. Proceeds goes to support our charities. The woman in charge of the kitchen gets to select the charity of her choice. Volunteers always welcome to cook or assist in serving.
Grab a friend or two and join us for this fun game.
A party will be held on Sunday, Oct. 30. It’s Wings Day in the post, so stop by for a bite to eat, games, and a costume contest. All proceeds will go to support our Child Welfare Fund, which provides Christmas gifts to children in need, school supplies, and more.
The Auxiliary will host a purse Auction Saturday, Nov. 5, from 2-5 p.m. Each donated purse will contain several gifts – cash, jewelry, gift certificates, etc. You bid on the unopened purse, and get the purse and contents. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year. Proceeds are divided amongst our causes – Hospital, Americanism, Community Service, Child Welfare.
Food will be available all afternoon, and up to 7 p.m.
Donations are still being accepted. Members – ask your favorite business for a gift card! We have donations letters with all the information available. See an officer.
We are planning a Christmas in July dinner to be held on Saturday, July 16. Proceeds will go to the Child Welfare Fund to support our Christmas program. The Auxiliary buys gifts for local needy children, as well as delivers meal baskets. More details will be available soon.
The Auxiliary is hosting its monthly bake sale on Sunday, Oct. 9, from 2-6 p.m. Donations of baked goods or cash are always welcome.
Stop by and grab your desserts for the week while helping to support our charities. Most items sell for $1, $2, or $3, though we sometimes have entire pies or cakes available.
We are in the process of updating our bylaws and nominating officers for the coming year. On Monday, April 4, all Auxiliary members are encouraged to attend the 4:30 meeting for these important decisions. This is YOUR club, and your vote counts. The election of officers will be held Monday, May 2. If at all possible, please try and attend the next two meetings.
Each second and fourth Thursday of the month the Ladies Auxiliary hosts the card game Show Me the Money. Never played? No worries – it’s simple! Bring a few friends, grab a meal meal offered by the Auxiliary (usually hot dogs, sloppy joes or something similar for $2 or $3) and have fun. It’s the easiest way to support the Auxiliary – a portion of the money collected each week goes to support our charities.
HOW TO PLAY:
Pay $20 for 20 hands. Pick your cards. There will be a stack of cards on the table to choose from, in sets of three (see sample below). You will need something to mark your cards. Most people use coins, and we have a bag of pennies if you need to use them during game play.
No luck with the ones you picked? No problem, you can change your cards several times during the night – the caller will announce it.
Once everyone has their cards and it hits 6 p.m., the caller will start Round 1 (of 20). She will use a fresh deck of cards each round, and will call the cards from the stack. … 1 of Spades, 2 of Hearts, 10 of Spades, 9 of Clubs … In the examples above, the person with the hand on the left would place a marker on the 10 of Spades, the person on the right on the 9 of clubs. When all three of your cards are called, you yell “Show Me the Money” and raise your hand (so we can find you!) A volunteer will read back your cards to the caller to verify your win, and you get the money!
Prizes per round are determined by how many people are playing, usually $11 -$18 a round, though it can be more depending on the crowd. If more than one person wins a round, the money is split among them. The more people who play, the bigger the prizes!
Jackpot: As of January 2022, it’s up over $500. Each week a portion of the money collected from players is put into the jackpot. To win, get Show Me the Money on the card that is called immediately after a Joker.
Our Purse Auction will be held Nov. 6. If you haven’t been to one in the past, don’t miss it!
Donated purses are stuffed with surprises – jewelry, gift cards, passes to local businesses such as rounds of golf, even cash. Items are placed in the purses in plain envelopes so even the organizers don’t know what a specific purse contains! Everyone who wins a purse is guaranteed to be a winner, as are all of our charities. Proceeds will be divided among our charities.
The entertainer that night is Randy Stanley. The format is that we will auction off purses between Randy’s sets. Great deals all afternoon long.
Members, be sure to bring a guest – or two or three – to the auction!
In the meantime, we are asking members who can assist in collecting donations from Leesburg area businesses to please do so. A letter is available at the post with all the information a potential donor needs. No donation is too small – or too big!
The bake sale on Sunday was a huge success! Thank you to all who purchased goodies and those who donated to support the Leesburg Food Bank. Thanks to your generosity we raised about $200 (final tally will be available this week)! And thank you to all our talented bakers. We had a great variety of delicious treats.
