PASTA DINNERS

Chef Gary Leap is offering a special menu on Feb. 13 & 20. He will have a Pasta Dinner offering a variety of pastas and sauces. You pick your desired sauce, meat and type of pasta, and he will makes it in front you. So many choices!

DJ BINGO

The AmVets is hosting a new game on Saturdays – DJ Bingo. This free event is a lot of fun – 40-second music clips are played. Mark the song off on your card. Get the pattern they are looking for, win a gift certificate for food or drink at the Post. There are 4 rounds. Round 4 also offers a jackpot. It starts at $25, and goes up each week if no one wins. The jackpot as of Feb. 4 was over $100.

Dinner is served from 5-7, and the game starts at 6 p.m.

A party will be held on Sunday, Oct. 30. It’s Wings Day in the post, so stop by for a bite to eat, games, and a costume contest. All proceeds will go to support our Child Welfare Fund, which provides Christmas gifts to children in need, school supplies, and more.

The Auxiliary will host a purse Auction Saturday, Nov. 5, from 2-5 p.m. Each donated purse will contain several gifts – cash, jewelry, gift certificates, etc. You bid on the unopened purse, and get the purse and contents. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year. Proceeds are divided amongst our causes – Hospital, Americanism, Community Service, Child Welfare.

Food will be available all afternoon, and up to 7 p.m.

Donations are still being accepted. Members – ask your favorite business for a gift card! We have donations letters with all the information available. See an officer.

The revised bylaws have been approved by the Department of Florida. Copies are available at the Post and are posted here.

We are planning a Christmas in July dinner to be held on Saturday, July 16. Proceeds will go to the Child Welfare Fund to support our Christmas program. The Auxiliary buys gifts for local needy children, as well as delivers meal baskets. More details will be available soon.

Ways to help

Attendance – Ladies, just attending an event makes a difference. Buy a baked good at the bake sale, enjoy a dinner at the post or try your luck at Show the Money. The more people who attend our events, the more money we raise for our charities!

Host/Chairwoman – If you host an event, you decide which AmVets Auxiliary you’d like to support. Hosting is easy, and you can recruit as much help as you need. You DO NOT need to be an officer to host an event. Every member is encouraged to step up and volunteer at least once.

Volunteer – Let us know if you’d like to help out during any of our events. See an officer or the host/chairwoman of the event.

Christmas Gifts

We will be collecting unwrapped gifts at the Post, or a $10 cash donation. Items will be delivered to Leesburg Elementary School by Dec. 14. We will be posting a wish list from children. You are welcome to buy gifts for a specific child or donate any item. Please watch our Bulletin Board for more information

Christmas Party

The Auxiliary will host a party to thank all of our donors for their support. Tentatively scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 18. The AmVets will supply the meat, and we are asking people who can to bring a dish to share.

MONTHLY/ONGOING EVENTS

• BAKE SALES, 2- 6 p.m. the second Sunday of the month. If you aren’t hosting, please donate a baked good. Just drop off your items at the Post on the day of the bake sale.

• SATURDAY DINNERS, 5-7 p.m. the first and third Saturdays of the month

• MONDAY DINNERS, 5-7 p.m. the last Monday of the month for the AmVets planning meeting

• SHOW ME THE MONEY – Second and Fourth Thursdays of the month. $20 per hand to play. Cash prizes. Building jackpot. Never played? Don’t worry – it’s very easy. Select a set of three cards from the front table. If the caller calls your three cards, yell “Show Me the Money” and win cash! Food available to purchase.

Christmas gifts for needy children and baskets for families

Monday, Nov. 7, 4:30 p.m. All members are encouraged to attend the monthly meetings. Please note the house rule that if you are in the building during the monthly meeting you must attend – you will not be served at the bar while the meeting is being held.

The Auxiliary is hosting its monthly bake sale on Sunday, Oct. 9, from 2-6 p.m. Donations of baked goods or cash are always welcome. 

Stop by and grab your desserts for the week while helping to support our charities. Most items sell for $1, $2, or $3, though we sometimes have entire pies or cakes available.

Each year in April the Auxiliary votes on how to spend the money that was raised in the past year. We support a number of charities. On Monday, April 4, during the regular meeting at 4:30, we will be voting on distribution of our money. Your vote counts! Please join us and have a say in where our money goes.
